(KNSI) – A major construction project to convert Interstate 94 from four to six lanes moves into its next phase starting Monday.

Work on the expansion between Albertville and Monticello, known as the I-94 Gap project. Crews will prepare the work zone with temporary lane widening and median crossovers. I-94 will be reduced to one lane in both directions at off-peak hours, mainly between 7:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m.

Crews will cut sections of the road on Monday evening, which will cause a lot of noise in the area. Workers hope they can complete the loud cutting in 24 hours. Due to high traffic volumes, the work cannot be completed during the day.

All lanes will be when winter returns. Major construction will take place in the spring of 2025 and the fall of 2026.
