(KNSI) – Former Rox slugger Charlie Condon’s week just keeps getting better.

After being taken third overall in this year’s Major League Baseball draft, the highest-ever selection for a Northwoods League player, Condon and the Colorado Rockies made another historical announcement Friday afternoon. The club has signed Condon to a deal above slot.

It is recommended that this year’s third pick should sign for $9,070,800. Condon’s bonus was $9,250,000, equal to the agreement between the Reds and pitcher Chase Burns, taken second. The deals are tied for the largest ever for a draft pick.

Condon played for St. Cloud in summer 2022. He has blossomed at Georgia in recent seasons. He mashed 37 home runs for the Bulldogs in the spring, leading the nation. He also paced the country in batting average. Thanks largely to Condon, Georgia was one win away from qualifying for the College World Series in Omaha.

Condon is also prized for his defensive versatility, having played five positions in the field for Georgia this past season.
