(KNSI) – A new partnership has kicked off between the College of Saint Benedict/Saint John’s University and the Minnesota United FC.

CSB and SJU have entered into a three-year agreement with the Major League Soccer franchise as the schools’ exclusive higher education partner. The contract gives the campuses a prominent presence on in-stadium scoreboards and digital displays. Students and alumni will also get a chance at 500 reserved tickets for CSB and SJU Night during the regular-season final on October 19th.

According to a press release, the partnership will help introduce the campuses to soccer fans. Over 19,500 people come to the stadium to support the Loons. MLS games are also on Apple TV.

Several CSB and SJU alumni are striking prominent roles with the United FC, including the team’s executive vice president, chief administrative officer and chief financial officer, Gretchen Korf, class of 1998. Executive Vice President and Chief Revenue Officer Bryant Pfeiffer graduated in 1994. Other CSB/SJU connections include team investors Joe Deignan, class of 1995 and Tome Vertin, class of 1968. Eric Thomes, class of 1994, is the chief commercial officer for Allianz Life Financial Services, the team’s stadium partner. Dr. Ryan Fader, class of 2007, is an orthopedic surgeon with Allina who serves as one of the team’s physicians.

CSB and SJU have longstanding histories of strong soccer programs. SJU’s program began in 1966 and has made ten national tournament appearances. CSB’s team first kicked off in 1983 and has made seven national tournament appearances.
