Tom Emmer Confident: Predicts GOP Sweep in Presidential, Senate Races, and House Majority Win

(KNSI) – House Majority Whip Tom Emmer, whose Congressional district includes St. Cloud, Benton County, and Sherburne County, is optimistic about the GOP’s chances in this year’s federal election.Emmer said experts already had Republicans pegged for a potential win in the presidential race and to secure a majority in the U.S. Senate. He told KNSI Radio Monday at the RNC he expects the GOP to have a triumvirate of their own in D.C. in November.

“Look, if you believe Donald Trump is going to be the next president as I do, you don’t lose the House. If you believe that the Senate is going to flip to Republican control like I do, you’re not going to lose the House.”

Emmer is the chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee, which oversees the party’s election efforts in the lower chamber. The GOP’s fortunes nationally contrast with those of a statewide party that lost to the DFL in the latest gubernatorial election and in the state legislature.

The Trump campaign is devoting major resources to try and make Minnesota a Republican win in the presidential election. A Benton County man has been named one of two senior state staffers. Blake Paulson will leave Emmer’s staff to fill the role. Emmer was effusive in his praise for Paulson.

“He’s got all kinds of St. Cloud roots, right? Grew up nearby. He’s spent all his time there. Yeah, he’s worked for us, but I’m going to tell you, he’s earned this. And by the way, the Trump people do their own due diligence. They’re the ones who decide, this person fits, or this person doesn’t.”

Paulson is the state director for the campaign.

The Trump machine is opening eight field offices across Minnesota to try and finally turn Minnesota red. Trump lost to Hillary Clinton here by barely one percent in 2016. Richard Nixon was the last Republican victorious here.
