(KNSI) — A busy stretch of Highway 23 is set to close on Monday, July 15th, threatening to delay drivers until October.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation will shut down a six mile stretch of the road between Milaca and Bock as crews completely reconstruct it, including replacement of underground pipes. MnDOT says drivers will benefit from a smoother surface when the work is done.

The detour starts at 105th Avenue, just east of Highway 169. Drivers will be redirected south to Mille Lacs County Road 2. They’ll take that east and return to 23 via County Road 1. Businesses and area residents will still have access to the highway, but local traffic should expect alternate access points and other temporary changes.

Resurfacing will occur in mid-September. Through traffic can expect a one-way road controlled by flaggers and a pilot car.
