(KNSI) — With 90-plus degree weather on the horizon this weekend, area HVAC companies are bracing for a surge in service calls.

Jeremy Salzbrun owns H&S Heating and Air Conditioning and warns customers that needing a new air conditioner is often one step of a more complicated process and recommends overhauling the entire system.

“It’s always best to replace both at the same time. I can’t tell you how many times that I replaced an air conditioner in the summer and, then, in the fall, the furnace is shot, and then we go and replace the furnace. There’s some huge savings by putting both in at the same time.”

Salzbrun feels the best way to prolong an HVAC system is by doing proper preventative maintenance. If you don’t, he likens it to your HVAC running a marathon without the ability to catch its breath. He says eventually, it has no choice but to collapse.

While the idea of buying a new air conditioner and furnace simultaneously is daunting, Salzbrun explains now is a great time to do it. “There has always been a big push, but this is the highest in my 28 years of doing HVAC. This is the most amount of money I’ve ever seen.”

Combining today’s rebates with future benefits to energy bills, Salzbrun says the cost is far less than it initially seems. He estimates HVAC systems are about 10 times as efficient today as when he started in the industry.
