(KNSI) – Waite Park Mayor Rick Miller has been recognized for his years leading the city.

Miller is the League of Minnesota Cities’ 2024 C.C. Ludwig Award recipient. The honor is named for a former League executive director and is its highest award for elected officials. The two time mayor first served the city from 1996-2001 and began his current term in 2007 after he was reelected as a write-in candidate.

According to the LMC, throughout his career, Miller has made significant contributions to the city’s government and has served with a commitment to better the community.

Some of his accomplishments include helping cities earn hotel licensing, authorizing a regional sales tax between area cities and capturing funding for regional road projects. During his time in office, the city built The Ledge Amphitheater and started the Babe Ruth Baseball Association.

Miller also serves on the Metro Bus Board of Commissioners, the Area Planning Organization, and the Waite Park Legion Club and is a member of the Waite Park Moose Club. During his time in the city, he has been a member of Waite Park’s police reserve, rescue squad, and fire department and helped start the city’s first parks board during his first term as mayor.
