(KNSI) – Time at the lake, grilling, and fireworks are staples of Independence Day here in Minnesota. The federal holiday also comes with disruptions.

The United States Postal Service will not be making deliveries. All federal departments and courts, as well as state government services, are closed. Area cities have already alerted people that municipal offices will also take the day off. That includes garbage pick up and the St. Cloud Compost Site, which will reopen Friday at its normal time of 1:00 p.m. Counties will be similarly affected.

Downtown parking in St. Cloud is free. Enforcement will resume on Friday, the 5th.

July 4th is a banking holiday, meaning branches will be dark for the day. The stock exchanges are also celebrating with a vacation.

National retailers, from grocery stores to Target and Walmart, will all be open. However, the holiday has a greater effect on local businesses. Make sure you double-check that your favorite store or restaurant is open before heading out.
