(KNSI) – Rain and thunderstorms are almost a certainty Thursday for the St. Cloud Fourth of July fireworks. Forecasts suggest we could get as much as 2.5″ throughout the area.

Still, officials say everything, from the pyrotechnics to the afternoon and evening entertainment, is a go, regardless of the weather. Fireworks Commissioner Christine Buttenhoff told KNSI Tuesday that attendees should come prepared but ready for a good time.

“Bring a rain jacket, bring an umbrella. You know, it’s going to be on and off throughout the day, perhaps, but I’m optimistic. I’m thinking we’re going to have a good evening. Fireworks are going off at 10:00, so be down there, bring some gear, [and] check out everything.”

Festivities are planned at Wilson Park on the eastern bank of the Mississippi River, beginning at noon. Hester Park fun kicks off at 2:00 p.m.

Since its inception, the St. Cloud fireworks show has never been postponed due to weather. Buttenhoff confidently predicts, “This will be the 78th consecutive year.”

She says severe weather and lightning would be necessary for officials to change their plans.
