(KNSI) – Two people lost their lives, and another hangs in the balance after a crash about six miles south of Sauk Centre.

First responders were called to the intersection of Highway 71 and County Road 28 around 7:30 on Sunday morning for an accident involving a pickup truck and an SUV. The Minnesota State Patrol says the truck was headed south on the highway while the SUV was headed east on the county road when they collided.

According to the accident report, two passengers in the SUV, 30-year-old Lener Carrasco Salgado of Melrose and 20-year-old Nayeli Hernandez of Sauk Centre, died at the scene. The driver, 23-year-old Elver Haniel Hernandez Carcamo, was rushed to CentraCare St. Cloud Hospital with life-threatening injuries. The 54-year-old truck driver from Sauk Centre was also hurt but is expected to recover.
