(KNSI) – The St. Cloud City Council approved a change to the Planned Unit Development for CentraCare Plaza that will allow for three new buildings on the campus.

The hospital system will be adding a 170,000-square-foot three-story structure for ambulatory services, along with an attached 58,250-square-foot wing for physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy. CentraCare also wants to put up a dormitory for medical school students, teachers, and other campus support staff with 96 total living units.

The PT and ambulatory buildings will be on the campus’s south side, tucked just inside the ring road that circles the complex. The dormitory will sit between the Administration Building, which is being converted into the medical school, and the Sauk River.

No neighbors spoke against the plan during a public hearing. CentraCare Plaza was built 25 years ago, and the PUD has already been amended six times.

CentraCare will eventually be responsible for adding a 218-vehicle parking bank to accommodate extra traffic expected from the expansion.
