(KNSI) – The future is now, and on Friday, it came at the expense of the Foley Varsity Baseball Team.

The Falcons were one-hit by a college-bound pitcher in the program’s first-ever state title game appearance, losing 6-0 in Class AA. Hitters had to battle rust, having sat for a week between the semifinal and championship contests. They also had to deal with the elements as a drizzle fell at Target Field, home of the Minnesota Twins, in between rounds of heavier storms.

And last, but not least, there was Rockford junior pitcher Will Hass. He has already been scooped up by what may be the best college program in the country. Hass is a commit to Southeastern Conference-powerhouse Tennessee. The Volunteers play Monday night for a Men’s College World Series championship against Texas A&M.

Foley sports a solid core of its own that has pushed the school to consecutive state tournament appearances. Their lineup wasn’t prepared for Hass’ combination of high-velocity fastball, slider, and change-up, though. Hass was perfect through 5 2/3 innings and finished with 13 strikeouts.

Rockford pushed across all of its runs in the third and fourth innings. Only two of them were earned.
