(KNSI) – A girl from Holdingford will have her likeness carved in butter as a finalist for the prestigious title of Princess Kay of the Milky Way.

Grace Woitalla told KNSI News she found out while watching the live broadcast at her grandma’s house, hoping to hear her name pop up. “All of a sudden, I heard the first sentence of the bio I created during judging. And I jumped out of the chair, and I was like, ‘Mom! that’s mine.’ And she was like, ‘Oh, let’s wait until they actually say your name so, you don’t get your hopes up.’ And then after the whole bio went through, they said my name and I was hugging everyone and kind of jumping up and down and it was just very exciting.”

Woitalla has been working hard for a long time to get where she’s at. “So this is my third year as a Stearns County Dairy Princess. I started my junior year of high school and just completed my first year of college. So I’ve been doing dairy princess for a while, and I’ve loved every single second of it.”

Last year, she tried to be a Princess Kay finalist, but I was not selected. It didn’t deter her, and she took it as a learning opportunity. Woitalla calls it a thrill and honor to be able to represent not only Stearns County dairy but also all of Minnesota.

While she’s been to the Minnesota State Fairgrounds multiple times for  FFA (Future Farmers of America), however, this will be the first time she will attend the state fair.

The crowning of Princess Kay takes place on the eve of The Great Minnesota-Get-Together, which runs from August 22nd to September 2nd. During the fair, a tradition is for the ten pageant finalists to have their images carved in butter.

Woitalla is one of two candidates from Stearns County running for the title. The other is Selena Corona from St. Joseph.
