(KNSI) – A St. Cloud native has been nominated to serve as a federal judge.

Laura Provinzino was born and raised in St. Cloud and attended St. Cloud Tech High School. She has spent her entire legal career in Minnesota, serving as a prosecutor in the United States Attorney’s Office since 2010. Provinzino is currently the Assistant United States Attorney for Minnesota. Her track record includes locking up people accused of violent crimes, human trafficking, child pornography, and crimes against Native American women.

In 2023, Provinzino earned the Attorney General’s David Margolis Award for Exceptional Service for her work in prosecuting an international sex trafficking organization that victimized hundreds of women. This is the highest award given by the Justice Department to an employee.

She was nominated Minnesota’s two U.S. Senators after a recommendation by the judicial selection committee.

Provinzino will serve in the United States District Court for the District of Minnesota.
