(KNSI) – During Monday’s Waite Park City Council work session, members were taken outside to see the full scope of the municipal center’s public safety expansion.
When finished, the building will stretch into what is now the outfield of a softball field just north of the facility. KNSI News spoke with Police Chief Anthony Reznicek, who says excitement is building over the addition because of how necessary it has become.
“The extension to the entire building is something we’re all looking forward to. When fully staffed at our current facility, we don’t have enough lockers for all the staff members, we don’t have enough interior garage parking for all of our squad cars, we don’t have enough room for all of our equipment.”
Waite Park has moved into the schematic design phase. Reznicek says architects and planners will determine how to complete the project while minimizing disruptions to current operations.
“There’s gonna be a lot more information coming over the next six months, but there’s no way you can have an expansion on a building without having some effect to our operations. That is something we will be working on throughout this Phase Three.”
Reznicek says that while new facilities should never be the sole focus of a potential hire, he believes the expansion will attract future job applicants and aid in officer retention.
Construction will most likely begin in spring 2025.
