(KNSI) — The most patriotic holiday of all, Independence Day, is just a couple of short weeks away. Researchers looked at how patriotic each state is, and Minnesota is in the top 20.

To identify the most patriotic states, the personal finance website WalletHub analyzed the 50 states based on two main categories: military engagement and civic engagement. Overall, we were 18th when it came to patriotic states.

Minnesota ranked 47th in military engagement, as we are one of the states with the lowest enlistment rates, but we did an outstanding job in civic engagement, landing at number six.

We were second when it came to the percentage of adults who voted in the 2020 presidential election, and third for the rate of people who volunteer.

Researchers also looked for the share of adults who voted in primary elections, AmeriCorps and Peace Corps volunteers per capita and residents who participate in groups, organizations or associations.
