(KNSI) – Young people and families across the region will get some help thanks to $3.5 million from the United Way of Central Minnesota.

The nonprofit has set aside $1,040,208 for 50 local programs covering four focus areas: education, health, financial stability and safety net services such as emergency shelter and food distribution.

The UWCM will also donate over $2.2 million in grants for organizations that support youth and families. The grants will go to after-school programming, child care, and volunteers.

Nearly $200,000 will be invested in Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, an initiative that provides children under five with age-appropriate books at no cost to the family.

“By investing in these critical areas, we are not just addressing immediate needs but also building a stronger, more resilient community for the future. These funds will empower United Way and other local organizations to make a tangible difference in the lives of our residents,” said United Way of Central Minnesota’s President and Chief Executive Officer Stephen Jones.

According to a press release, the United Way of Central Minnesota’s Board of Directors is committed to solving some of the community’s greatest challenges.
