(KNSI) — The Minnesota Police and Peace Officers Association has named House Public Safety Committee Lead Representative Paul Novotny (R-Elk River) its Legislator of the Year.
Novotny, who served as a deputy sheriff with the Sherburne County Sheriff’s Office for 33 years, is described as a staunch advocate for law enforcement throughout his legislative career.
“I am honored to be named MPPOA’s 2024 Legislator of the Year,” said Rep. Novotny. “My work in St. Paul has always focused on prioritizing Minnesotans and their families. A key aspect of this is collaborating with law enforcement to ensure they have the necessary support and resources to keep our communities safe. I look forward to continuing this crucial work, supporting policies that help peace officers serve the public safely and effectively.”
House Minority Leader Representative Lisa Demuth (R-Cold Spring) called Rep. Novotny “an invaluable voice for law enforcement, consistently championing bills to provide our police and peace officers with the resources and tools they need.” She praised the MPPOA’s recognition and contributions to the legislature, adding she looks forward to his “continued support for the men and women in uniform who risk their lives to keep us safe.”
