(KNSI) – The Minnesota Department of Education has come under Congressional scrutiny.

In the wake of a verdict in the first federal criminal trial in the Feeding Our Future scandal and a new report from the Office of Minnesota Legislative Auditor, the House of Representatives is requesting extensive documentation from MDE. Feeding Our Future scammed as much as $250 million meant to provide meals for needy children.

The program was overseen by the state but was funded by the United States Department of Agriculture Federal Child Nutrition Program. The U.S. House Committee on Education and the Workforce is asking for any emails, texts, or other communications between MDE and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, USDA, or the Office of the Governor of Minnesota.

It also wants documents turned over by MDE to the FBI and internal communications between MDE employees. Lastly, the committee is interested in documentation related to sponsoring organizations and food distribution sites.

The letter was co-signed by all of Minnesota’s Republican Congressional delegation members, including Brad Finstad (CD-01), House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (CD-06), Michelle Fischbach (CD-07), and Pete Stauber (CD-08).
