(KNSI) – Even after St. Cloud City Council approval of a potential shelter off 1st Street South, Avivo, the organization behind the development, is still scouting other possible sites with the help of area businesses.

Avivo’s Sheila Delaney tells KNSI News via email the process started in March when concerns were raised by some business and community leaders. Avivo accepted the invitation to work together to find an alternative location for a low-barrier homeless facility, and Delaney says the ad-hoc group is a success even if a secondary site is not found adding it has helped build relations between Avivo and the St. Cloud community.

In the meantime, the organization has put on hold preliminary design steps.

Delaney reiterates that Avivo would be happy to use the site included in the application approved by the city council. The 56-room facility would be built on one acre of land near a pond on 1st Street South. Delaney explains they picked that location after an extensive and difficult search.

Officials expect a decision on whether to keep with the original site or to move to a new spot in St. Cloud will be made soon.
