Monticello Man Killed in Crash Near Becker

(KNSI) — Authorities say one person has died following a crash on Highway 10 in Becker Monday evening.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol’s preliminary crash report, just after 7:30, the 67-year-old driver of an International semi truck was going west on Highway 10 and had pulled into the left turn lane at Liberty Lane when it was rear ended by a Ford F-150 pickup truck driven by 44-year-old Derrick Ray Sartwell of Monticello.

Crash investigators say Sartwell was also westbound on Highway 10 and in the right lane approaching the intersection of Liberty Lane/Rolling Ridge Road when it veered left and into the rear of the trailer being pulled by the semi.

Sartwell was pronounced dead at the scene. He was the lone occupant of the pickup. The semi driver was not hurt.
