(KNSI) – A local banker and philanthropist is seeing his charitable legacy grow, even after his death.

Norman Skalicky was known in life for creating Stearns Bank National Association in St. Cloud, which now has over $3 billion in assets, and for giving to several important causes in central Minnesota. Skalicky died in 2021, but the foundation he set up in 1999 continues to operate.

It is awarding $1 million to three area projects. Friends of North Park in Albany will receive $500,000. The money will help install a picnic shelter and splash pad in 2025.

The other two grants are for St. Cloud organizations. The Great River Children’s Museum is in line for $250,000 to help with programming as it prepares to open to the public. St. Cloud Technical and Community College is also getting $250,000, which will be added to its scholarship fund.

The Norman C. Skalicky Foundation Fund is part of the Central Minnesota Community Foundation.
