(KNSI) — A corrections officer at Minnesota Correctional Facility – St. Cloud will be OK after he was assaulted on the job on Sunday.

According to an email sent from the Minnesota Department of Corrections to KNSI News, at approximately noon on Sunday, the officer was delivering supplies to the segregation unit when an inmate reached through an open window slot and punched the officer. The officer was driven to the hospital by staff on duty, checked out, and released.

The officer’s injuries were considered minor, and he returned to work the same day.

The assault is under investigation.

Two officers at Minnesota Correctional Facility – Stillwater were assaulted by an inmate late last month. One of them was at a housing unit security post when they were attacked. An officer who stepped in to break it up was assaulted by another inmate who jumped in. A different inmate got in the mix to pull the other two off the officers.

DOC Commissioner Paul Schnell issued a statement following the May attack, saying it is “another unfortunate reminder of the challenges and risks corrections staff face. We will pursue prosecution of the perpetrators of these cowardly attacks to the fullest extent of the law, and we recognize and appreciate the honorable actions of the incarcerated man who courageously intervened.”
