(KNSI) – Minnesota lawmakers are responding to the death of a Minneapolis police officer killed in an ambush that left two others dead and three others wounded.

Elected leaders and other officials took to social media to offer prayers and support following Thursday’s shooting in the Whittier neighborhood. Three people were confirmed dead, including the suspect in the shooting. The third person was found deceased in the apartment.

U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar says she is devastated after learning of the mass shooting. Senator Tina Smith said the shooting was tragic and said she was praying for emergency responders and everyone in the community. Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan said the state will continue to provide any support possible to the community following the shooting.

Minnesota Representative Paul Novotny is a former Sherburne County sheriff’s deputy. He stated that this is the day every officer and every officer’s family dreads. He went on to say that the loss of a member of the law enforcement family is heartbreaking.
