(KNSI) – Four people, including the shooter, are dead after a suspect ambushed Minneapolis law enforcement responding to an emergency call Thursday.
It happened on the 2200 block of Blaisdell Avenue in the Whittier neighborhood in the 5:00 p.m. hour Thursday. Minneapolis PD on X described the scene as an active situation.
Two civilians and a 28-year-old police officer were killed. Another member of MPD was injured. The area around the shooting was blocked off, and Hennepin County Medical Center was placed on lockdown.
No other details were immediately available. Minneapolis has not had a shooting death of an officer in over 20 years, but attacks on law enforcement have become more common in recent years. Two Burnsville officers and a firefighter-paramedic were killed responding to a domestic violence call in February.
