(KNSI) — The Stearns History Museum is going “Back to the Future” when its 80s exhibit opens Thursday.

Travel back in time to learn about the movies, toys, and cultural phenomenons that defined the decade. The exhibit will explore red hot trends like neon, big hair, and glam bands. Executive Director Amy Degerstrom explains it all ties into the celebration of the museum opening in its current building in 1984. “We’ll be spending our time and energy focused in and around the 1980s in Stearns County next year, which has potential for lots of fun.”

There will be a 1980s car show, a cover band playing music from the era, and roller skating.

Degerstrom explained the exhibit will also examine events that were more challenging in Stearns County, like political upheaval and the farm crisis. “The 1980s were very hard for people who were doing that job here. There was a lack of funding. Their weather patterns were not good. There were political and economic depressions during that time.”

The museum will hold an event on June 30th to celebrate the building’s 40th birthday. The Stearns Historical Society was first formed in 1936.
