(KNSI) — The Section 8AAA Track Meet in Sartell will start in a most unique way for a high school.

The Minnesota Air National Guard’s 133rd Airlift Wing’s C-130 Hercules will buzz Riverview Intermediate School’s stadium on Wednesday afternoon. The flyover will start in the north and continue south toward the Twin Cities.

Sartell assistant track coach and Air National Guard member Darin Morrison, says it will bring a major league feel to the meet. “You will always see these flyovers at the big sporting events, and I thought one day, and this was long ago, it would be really cool if we could ever facilitate that via the Air National Guard.”

Morrison wasn’t sure if he’d get the thumbs up, but you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take, so “I figured, hey, the worst that could happen is they say no, at the big Air Force level. So we submitted the paperwork, and to my surprise, as well as a lot of my leadership’s surprise, we got approved. And here we are kind of staring down the barrel of a flyover, which is pretty big deal for Sartell.”

It is a big deal, as Wednesday marks the first time this will happen. It appears the weather will cooperate as the forecast calls for sunny skies and a high of around 70.

The event will be a community party with food trucks, other festivities, and, of course, the track meet. The Sartell High School Choir will sing the anthem. The flyover is scheduled for 3:20 p.m.
