(KNSI) – Baseball standout Kade Lewis didn’t take long to become the big man on campus at Butler University.

The former Sartell Sabre picked up in college right where he ended his high school career left off. The two-time all-state player and Mr. Baseball finalist can add an NCAA Division I honor to his trophy case. Lewis was the 2024 Big East Freshman of the Year.

The first baseman was also selected to the conference’s second team. He led the league in batting average at .377 and was second in the Big East with 78 hits in over 50 starts in his debut campaign for the Bulldogs. At one point, Lewis reached base in 27 straight games.

Lewis hit for average and power, amassing 12 doubles, four triples, and ten home runs. His 51 RBIs were third in the conference. Lewis was a key contributor to a Butler offense that finished fourth in batting average and tied for third in runs scored.

The Bulldogs had less bite on the mound. The team was last in the conference with a 9.50 earned run average. Butler’s 5-16 conference mark was also the worst in the Big East.

Lewis will be spending his summer back in the St. Cloud area. He is part of the 2024 Rox lineup in the Northwoods League. The team’s home opener is Friday night.
