St. Cloud Records 1.1″ of Rain Tuesday, Bringing Seasonal Total to 9.29″

(KNSI) — The drought in central Minnesota has all but evaporated, and the area received some insurance rain on Tuesday.

The National Weather Service says St. Cloud officially recorded 1.1″ of rain Tuesday. So far this month, the official reading is 2.06″. Since meteorological spring began March 1st, we’ve gotten 9.29″.

Other spots on the map saw varying amounts. According to the Community Collaborative Rain, Hail and Snow Network, which is made up of certified weather observers, the highest rain total seen was 2.86″ recorded about six miles north of Clear Lake. Near Becker, one observer reported 2.38″ of rain, and another between Maple Lake and Clearwater picked up 2.32″. Spots between Foley and Milaca got around 2″.

The latest drought monitor shows Benton, Sherburne and Stearns Counties with no drought conditions. That’s a far cry from three months ago when 100% of Benton and Sherburne Counties were experiencing some drought conditions, and nearly a third of Stearns County was considered in a drought.

The wet pattern appears like it may continue. There is a slight chance of a stray shower or storm today and tomorrow, with a better chance Thursday night and Friday before it dries out Saturday. There are chances for rain that pop up again each day Sunday through Tuesday.
