(KNSI) – The Benton County Sheriff’s Office says a 71-year-old man died after the ATV he was driving collided with a car Monday afternoon.
According to a press release, at about 1:50 pm, first responders arrived at the scene in Langola Township, where a 2002 Mazda 626 had collided with a Honda Ranchman ATV. They found the ATV driver, Frank Andrew Hohmann of Rice, critically injured and lying on the east side of the road. Life-saving measures were taken, but Hohmann was pronounced dead at the scene. The car’s driver, a 54-year-old man from South Haven, was not injured.
The driver said he swerved to avoid a cat on the road, causing him to drive on the shoulder before returning to the roadway. He then saw Hohmann on the ATV directly in front of him and was unable to stop in time to avoid the collision.
The investigation is ongoing.
