(KNSI) — After eight years of keeping the Minnesota State Capitol safe, K9 Matka is hanging up her leash and retiring.
Matka has been the State Patrol’s sole explosive detection K9 since 2016. A press release from the Minnesota Department of Public Safety says throughout her career, she’s played a vital role in ensuring safety by conducting routine sweeps of the Capitol buildings for potential threats, responding to calls regarding suspicious or unattended bags, and participating in bomb sweeps. Beyond her impressive work ethic, Matka has also been known for her friendly demeanor, leaving a positive impression on everyone she met.
A ceremony will be held on Friday, May 17th, to honor the Hungarian Vizsla’s dedicated service.
