(KNSI) – The first summer celebration of the season takes place in Waite Park, and Family Fun Fest is fast approaching.

Monday is the medallion hunt. Clues will be posted daily on the city’s website and Fun Fest’s Facebook page. The winner will receive a $250 Visa gift card. That evening, there will also be a pickleball open house at River’s Edge Park.

Fun Fest President Michael Bruemmer told KNSI News the volunteer turnout has been tremendous, and that has him “fired up, especially for my favorite day, kids day. You can’t beat kids pounding on wood and cookie decorating. It’s just a great time.” That takes place on Wednesday. The afternoon event is free and includes a touch-a-truck, inflatables, a building project, a bike rodeo, make it take crafts, design a t-shirt, and music at the community park. There will also be freight train tours at the Star Rail Musuem.

Thursday features the city-wide garage sale. Go to city hall and donate $5 to the food shelf donation for a free garage sale sign and a place on the map showing where the sales are. Each year, there are more than 100 garage sales. Bruemmer says Thursday also features the grand parade. “I think we have like 100 units,” but his favorite part is “five marching bands. If you don’t have marching bands, you don’t have a parade.”

Floats will be throwing candy. The activities wrap up on Friday with the car show.

“It’s real important to the city,” Bruemmer says. “It’s Waite Park’s festival. It’s not like a family reunion, but it’s like a Waite Park reunion. Plus, we get outsiders also coming in. It’s a real good deal for Waite Park.”
