(KNSI) – The Benton County Board of Commissioners helped pave the way for a new drug rehab facility in Sauk Rapids at Tuesday’s meeting.

The group unanimously approved providing a letter of need for Radiant Recovery and Wellness Center. The step is required as part of Minnesota’s licensing process. The draft will say that there is adequate demand in the area for an outpatient service that helps people recover from drug addiction.

The commissioners heard a short presentation from Radiant’s Mohamed Ali. A filing on March 28th says the organization is hoping to open a center at 2 2nd Avenue South in the city’s downtown district.

Ali says Radiant will stress attending to segments of the population that are traditionally underserved, namely East African and Somali cultures. Ali says they are now forced to travel to the twin cities for care to find the best results. Radiant will be a faith-based organization. Ali says they welcome everyone, but he wants to avoid adopting a model that is boilerplate since that does not necessarily result in the most desirable outcomes for patients.
