(KNSI) – A South Dakota-based clinician-to-clinician telemedicine services provider says it will acquire St. Cloud-based Horizon Virtual. Horizon Virtual is a virtual hospitalist services provider.

A press release from Avel eCare says, “Horizon Virtual’s highly skilled team of internal medicine hospitalists will further enhance Avel’s robust network of doctors, nurses, and clinicians.” Avel will retain Horizon Virtual CEO Dr. Darin Willardsen as Vice President of Provider Relations and Strategic Partnerships. Dr. Todd Severnak, formerly of Horizon Virtual, will serve as Medical Director for the combined Hospitalist service at Avel.

Avel eCare offers 24/7 access to board-certified hospitalists and nurses working with local medical teams. Company CEO Doug Duskin praised Horizon Virtual’s expertise in virtual hospitalist services, saying it “perfectly complements our existing offerings.”

This marks Avel’s third acquisition in just over a year. In September 2023, it purchased Texas-based Fident Health, and in January 2023 it purchased West Virginia-based NightWatch.
