(KNIS) – A regional water watchdog group is pushing people to join the Adopt-a-Drain program.

Central Minnesota Water Education Alliance is encouraging residents and businesses to protect rivers, lakes, and wetlands by volunteering to adopt storm drains. This will keep them clear of dirt, leaves, and trash, allowing water to flow easily off streets and yards without carrying extra pollutants.

Experts say it is a family-friendly way to stay connected to the community and an easy way to positively impact the environment. Find a drain, clear it, and then report your work on the Adopt-a-Drain website so progress can be tracked. There are over 8,000 storm drains in St. Cloud.
