(KNSI) – Now in its third year, St. Cloud Area Restaurant Week is helping expose eateries, bars, and even roller rinks to people from across the Midwest.

The Visit Greater St. Cloud website allows you to enter for a chance to win gift cards to participating businesses. Executive Director Rachel Thompson says the comments they are leaving are heartening to hear.

“And it’s things like, ‘I never knew this place existed,’ ‘I’ve lived here my whole life, and I’m excited to try XYZ,’ as well as its people saying, ‘I’m making a trip planned this summer to the area, and now I’m gonna make sure to stop in St Cloud to try XYZ.'”

Restaurant Week is May 13-19th, starting on a Monday with confections and a whopping ten items are highlighted. Tuesday focuses on handhelds, which allows for various portable options. Wednesday stars only gluten-free offerings from breakfast to dessert. Few combos complement each other better than Thursday’s wings and wontons. Friday is hot to trot with spicy offerings. Think breading or layers of gooey deliciousness for Saturday’s guilty pleasures. Sunday is for items that have been recognized as the best with award winning.

St. Cloud Area Restaurant Week involves more than just dishing up wins for local diners. Thompson talks about how eateries are highlighted on the organization’s website.

“Every year we’ve done it, we’ve done a featured restaurant on each of the days that gets a full video that allows [them] to tell a little bit more of their story, how they came to be, what they love about owning a restaurant in the area, as well as their menu items.”

Restaurants get to pick one item in one category for the event. Thompson says she is sometimes surprised at what they decide to showcase. Clearwater, St. Augusta, Sartell, Sauk Rapids, and St. Cloud are just some of the cities with a location participating.
