(KNSI) – Mother’s Day and the Minnesota walleye fishing opener always fall on the same weekend, so the Department of Natural Resources is calling on moms across the state to take part in the fishing challenge on Saturday, May 11th, and Sunday, the 12th.

It’s easy to participate. Join the Facebook group “Minnesota Moms Fishing Challenge 2024” and then post one photo of each of your catches.

It’s organized by the Student Angler Organization and Women Anglers of Minnesota. The group will randomly draw prizes from everyone who posts in the group. One prize is gift cards for SCHEELS or Lund.

The DNR says better than 2,400 moms took part in the first-ever challenge last year. To maximize your results in a couple of weeks, tune in for a virtual Fishing 101 class on May 7th. Find a link here.

Take a Mom Fishing Weekend was started in 1988. Moms can fish without a license to celebrate.
