(KNSI) – Area bus drivers prepare to get back in the saddle again.

The Local Bus Roadeo has been scheduled for Thursday, May 16th, at the K-Lot at St. Cloud State University, next to the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center on the southern end of campus. Metro Bus has been holding the event since 1986. Winners advance to the state and potentially international competitions.

The area has a rich history of success in the exhibitions. Metro Bus drivers have won the Minnesota State Roadeo 25 times, placed in the top four globally eight times and won the world event twice.

They’ll compete in two categories, determined by the bus size. Fixed Route are the city buses you see moving from stop to stop around town. The Dial-a-Ride division is for the smaller vehicles. Clients arrange pick-ups at their homes for a more specialized service.

The community is encouraged to come out and watch the competition. The top finishers advance to the Statewide Bus Roadeo in July in Shakopee.
