(KNSI) – T-Mobile is building on success in the St. Cloud area to expand its high-speed internet offerings across the country.

The telecom first got into the field back in 2021, and St. Cloud and Sauk Rapids were some of its first markets, along with sites in California and New York City. T-Mobile’s U.S. subsidiary says it was able to win over more than 20% of the potential customers in its early markets within one year.

The expansion will happen through a joint venture with an investment firm based out of Sweden, EQT, to buy the American company Lumus. T-Mobile will pour in $1.5 billion between now and 2028. That will allow Lumus to expand from 320,000 homes nationwide to 3.5 million.

It has not been revealed what states and what markets Lumos would operate in. The deal should close in late 2024 or early 2025.
