(KNSI) – A local gridiron standout was not taken at the 2024 NFL Draft this weekend, but that wasn’t because of a lack of interest among teams.

Former St. Cloud Tech High School and University of Minnesota player Brevyn Spann-Ford has already inked a deal with the Dallas Cowboys. The tight end will receive a $225,000 guaranteed salary with a $20,000 signing bonus.

Dallas Morning News team reporter Michael Gehlken wrote on X Sunday afternoon that the terms speak to both the team’s interest and Spann-Ford’s strong market. He says the ex-Gopher is a player to watch. NFL Analyst Brent Sobelski says Spann-Ford’s contract is the fourth richest among all undrafted free agents, trailing a wide receiver and two running backs.

The Cowboys are already talented at the position, led by Jake Ferguson. He nabbed 71 receptions for 761 yards and five touchdowns a year ago. By comparison, Spann-Ford’s best season in Minneapolis was in 2022, when he caught 42 balls for 497 yards in 13 games.

Another former Big Ten player, Luke Schoonmaker from the University of Michigan, is also a part of the organization.
