Spring Safety Reminder to Call 811 Before You Dig

(KNSI) — As April showers give way to May flowers, utility companies remind the public to call before they dig.

Calling 811 is required before starting a garden, installing a fence, mailbox, deck or any other project that requires digging. When calling or making a notification online, there will be a few questions to answer about the location and details of the project. When the information is processed, directions will be given for how much time utilities have to respond and how to determine if all utilities have been contacted. Companies will then send out locators to mark the approximate location of buried lines with paint or flags so they can be avoided.
