(KNSI) – Thursday’s U.S. Drought Monitor release shows the full effect of last week’s soaking rains.

There is no longer a drought in Benton, Sherburne, or Stearns County. However, about 11% of Benton and roughly 13% of Stearns County are still considered abnormally dry. Heavy rain is forecast this weekend, which should help to chip away at the problem.

While storm totals were impressive on April 16th and 17th, they mostly hit parts of the state already in good shape. Only 32% of Minnesota is abnormally dry, down from 43%. However, the scope of moderate and severe drought hardly budged. Just over 30% of the state is still in moderate drought. The amount affected by severe drought rose to 12.55% from 11.33%.

The hardest hit area ranges from Cass County to Kittson County.
