(KNSI) — The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is releasing more information about an officer involved shooting in Wright County.

Investigators say Wright County sheriff’s deputies were looking for 38-year-old Matthew Lyrek to arrest him on multiple felony warrants. He was spotted just before 1:00 p.m. on April 15th outside the Dollar General store in Montrose, and when officers went to take Lyrek into custody, they say he pulled out a gun. Seven deputies used force during the incident. Three used less than lethal force, two deployed Tasers, and at least one fired a rifle. Another was present but worked undercover.

Lyrek suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center, where he remains in stable condition.

The BCA says Lyrek was armed with two handguns and had more in his car. They also recovered cartridge casings and evidence of less lethal force and Taser deployments. Wright County deputies do not wear body cameras but squad car cameras captured portions of the incident.

The investigation is still ongoing. Once complete, the BCA will present its findings without a charging recommendation to the Wright County Attorney’s Office for review.
