(KNSI) – The Minnesota chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations says House Majority Whip Tom Emmer’s criticism of colleague Ilhan Omar is over the line.

Emmer took to X recently, saying that Omar’s rhetoric was pro-Hamas and the Democratic party is becoming a pro-terrorist Party. CAIR worries Emmer’s post will lead to anti-Muslim sentiment.

They want the congressman, who represents Minnesota’s Sixth District, including St. Cloud, to issue a public apology. The organization says violence against Muslims is on the rise.

Executive Director Jaylani Hussein warns, “Minnesota is home to a significant Muslim population and has witnessed the highest number of mosque attacks in the nation, including Muslims in Rep. Emmer’s District, and it is unfortunate that the congressman is putting his constituents and the people he is supposed to represent in a very dangerous spotlight.”

A report from CAIR claims that it received 3,578 complaints of prejudice in the final three months of 2023, a record.
