(KNSI) — The St. Cloud Fire Department said that early Wednesday morning, thanks to working smoke detectors, one person was able to escape their burning house.

Just after 12:30, crews were called to the fire on the 200 block of 14th Avenue North. They arrived to find smoke and flames, so they went in and quickly put the fire out, containing the blaze to the first floor, primarily around the kitchen area. A search of the home turned up no one inside.

A critical incident report says properly operating smoke alarms were activated, alerting the homeowner and providing the opportunity to safely escape. Nobody was hurt.

The homeowner is being helped by the Red Cross.
