(KNSI) — Stearns County Emergency Management is warning the public they may hear a short blast of the outdoor warning sirens over the next month.
The sirens are maintained annually, and residents may hear a brief activation while that’s being conducted. Maintenance and inspections are usually done once a year to minimize the possibility of siren failure. Outdoor warning sirens are one way emergency managers can notify the public about immediate, life-threatening conditions, such as severe weather or other situations when people should take cover.
Sirens are also tested on the first Wednesday of the month at 1:00 unless there’s a chance of severe weather, in which case the test is moved to a different day.
