(KNSI) — Monday, April 22nd, is Earth Day, and the City of St. Cloud says it’s a great day to adopt a roadway or a pond.
By regularly cleaning ponds and roadways, local waterways can be kept free of pollutants, promoting healthy environments, and enhancing the community’s beauty.
When residents, groups, or businesses commit to cleaning up trash around local stormwater ponds or roads, the city will display a sign near the designated area, recognizing and appreciating the effort.
Here are some additional ways to get involved:
Adopting a rain garden is a one-time obligation to volunteer. It involves trash pickup and light weeding in a local rain garden to improve its stormwater treatment effectiveness and aesthetic beauty. Other one-time volunteer opportunities include community clean-ups and storm drain stenciling. Adopt-a-Drain is the city’s newest volunteer program. Volunteers can click here to select storm drains near their homes or businesses to adopt and commit to keeping them clean of trash and other debris.
Anyone with questions about the programs can call 320-255-7226 or send an email to stormwater@ci.stcloud.mn.us.
