(KNSI) – There’s no more natural place in Stearns County to spend Earth Day than Quarry Park.

Officials say free parking will be available Monday, and they encourage residents to stop by with a trash bag in hand to pick up garbage and other litter along the trails.

The 683 acre park is the largest operated by Stearns County and its most popular, given its Waite Park location and proximity to major cities like St. Cloud. Trails wind around forests, prairies, wetlands, and 20 quarries, many of which turn into swimming holes on a hot summer day. There is also a state natural area operated by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.

Stearns County says the best way to celebrate Earth Day is through acts of service that help to remind you about the importance of our planet. The holiday was first observed on April 22, 1970.
