(KNSI) — Central Minnesota’s drought conditions likely improved Tuesday and Wednesday after the all-day/all-night soaker the area received.
The National Weather Service’s official total as of 1:00 a.m. Wednesday morning showed 1.71″, but forecasters said that’s likely higher because it was still raining.
Other observations show close to two inches of rain in several areas, including just north of St. Joseph and along the river in St. Cloud. Around Becker and areas south of Clearwater got over two inches. One observation near Maple Lake showed three inches. Most other areas saw between 1.5″ and 2″.
Will it be a drought buster? Possibly.
Last week, rain erased even abnormally dry conditions in most of Benton and Sherburne Counties. The U.S. Drought Monitor from April 11th showed that soil moisture in St. Cloud is normal.
This system could alleviate the abnormally dry and moderate drought conditions in northwest Benton County and roughly the northern half of Stearns County.
