(KNSI) – Hold on to your hats Tuesday, as strong winds are expected across central Minnesota.

A wind advisory runs from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. The St. Cloud area could be in line to see up to 45 miles per hour gusts. The breezy conditions will come with as much as three-quarters of an inch of new rain, part of a larger system that will last until tomorrow.

Within weak thunderstorms, it could blow at 55 miles per hour. The National Weather Service says winds this strong can blow around unsecured objects and may down tree limbs and power lines.

Officials also warn commercial truck drivers to use caution. The surface of a high-profile vehicle acts like a sail and can be affected by crosswinds when traveling at a high speed on bridges or when exposed on open grasslands.
